United States troops in the former Yugoslavia haven't missed out on the festive fun.
They had their traditional Christmas dinner - made in a field kitchen in Tuzla - and met Santa Claus.
At the Tuzla air base, where about 2,000 American GIs are spending Christmas, making do is the order of the day.
In the morning, the troops detonated an anti-personnel mine which they found two days ago.
Here, regular duties have to be carried out before anyone can get down to the real business of celebrating Christmas.
A field kitchen had been erected so that troops could get their traditional hot lunch of Christmas turkey.
Despite long queues soldiers were generally happy with their food.
