A summer afternoon visit to the Ribble Steam Railway at Preston.
From Preston station it is a long , but nice but long ,45 minute along the river to the museum and Preston Riverside station.
Steam loco, Hawthorn Leslie, 0-6-0ST No.21 'Linda' is working the service on this day.
The museum hosts a great collection of small, steam and diesel locos and other exhibits.
The railway is all thats left of the once vast and fascinting Preston Docks railway, and now runs over the docks entrance ob a road / rail swing bridge.
Also it has the advantage of getting a large source of its income by transferring 2 to 3 tanker train loads of Bitumen each week, from the Network Rail connection at the Strand Road crossing to the Bitumen manufacturing plant near The Museum.
Great to chat to some of the friendly volunteers, including one who offered me a lift back to the mainline station.
