Jack Andraka is arguably one the most remarkable high school students ever. Aged only 15, he created a novel paper sensor that detects pancreatic, ovarian, and lung cancer in 5 minutes for as little as 3 cents. His research won him the Gordon E. Moore award at Intel International Science and Engineering Fair and the Smithsonian American Ingenuity Award. In this inspirational talk, Jack argues that the democratisation of science and open access to information are not only essential for innovation to flourish but a basic human right that will allow us to reach our true potential.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
