“In 2004, in order to set up my Sokoa Chair Centre factory in a joint venture with some French investors, I had to put down a capital of 75 million naira as my own contribution. And this was a time when government policy had sort of shut us down as a business. I told my staff to calm down.
I remembered that in 2000, I bought eight plots of land just before Chevron, and the cost came to about #5.2 million. When I needed 75 million to put down as capital, I decided I wanted to sell that land.
Remember, I bought in 2000. In 2004, I sold it for N61.7 million. I did nothing: I didn’t even build a fence. I didn’t put a stone down. Nothing. “ Mrs IBukun Awosika
