Wesley Parrott is Organist at Philadelphia Episcopal Cathedral since 2019, and is an active consultant in the new installation, restoration and expansion of the1936 Moller organ (Richard Whitelegg) there. The organ was originally installed in Schwab Auditorium, Penn State University. Wesley also serves as Liturgical Musician at St. Francis De Sales R.C. Church in West Philadelphia.
After studying organ with Alexander McCurdy and John Weaver at the Curtis Institute of Music (Artist’s Diploma, 1974), he studied under Joseph Running and Robert Delcamp at The University of the South, Sewanee, TN (Bachelor of Arts, 1980) and then under David Craighead at Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester, Rochester, NY (Master of Music, 1982). Winner of three US national organ playing competitions in 1979, and numerous local and regional competitions, he was also a finalist in the International Organ Playing Competition, Grand Prix de Chartres in 1982 and a semi-finalist in 1986. Wesley has performed in such places as Longwood Gardens, Ocean Grove, NJ, National City Christian Church (Washington, D.C.), The Kimmel Center’s Verizon Hall, The Academy of Music (Philadelphia), Princeton University Chapel, St. Vincent Archabbey, Latrobe, PA, and was accompanist for choir tours of The University Choir (Sewanee) and The Princeton Singers, at cathedrals throughout England. In recent years, he served as an Assistant Organist performing on the Macy’s Grand Court Wanamaker Organ, Philadelphia, for daily recitals and radio broadcasts. He served as Organist/Director of Music at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, Cathedral Road, Philadelphia for 21 years, where he collaborated on the design of the Patrick J. Murphy and Associates pipe organ in 2000. Prior to that, he was for 11 years Organist/Choirmaster at St. Mark’s Church, Locust St. in Philadelphia. Previous church positions were in Alexandria, VA, Rochester, NY and Washington, D.C.
