In the wake of intensified crackdowns on journalists and NGO representatives in Azerbaijan, independent researchers now face even graver accusations—this time, of treason. Researchers Igbal Abilov and political scientist Bahruz Samedov, who reside outside Azerbaijan, have been charged with this offense. Local civil society groups, along with numerous international organizations, view these charges as yet another form of repression against freedom of expression in Azerbaijan.
