Great news! The Gayrettepe metro station is finally up and running.
With most flights from Europe and both Americas now arriving at the new Istanbul Airport, the city had to figure out how to handle the influx of travelers.
Unfortunately, their initial solutions fell short...
Getting into the city became quite the ordeal, with only taxis and shuttles available, leading to long waits and high costs. While the Municipality tried to fix the issue by opening a direct subway line(M11 or U1), they missed the mark by terminating it at Kağıthane station, leaving travelers stranded: To reach the City Center, you're forced to ascend to the platform of the next metro line, travel just ONE station, and then switch to ANOTHER metro line. That means THREE transfers just to get where you need to go. That was weird.
However, the recent opening of the new Gayrettepe metro station has changed the game. Now, travelers can easily hop on the M2 line at Gayrettepe to reach the City Center from Istanbul Airport.
Join us on a round trip from Gayrettepe station to Istanbul Airport station aboard the M11 and M2 line. And let's not forget to appreciate the station's stunning interior – it's truly a work of art, wouldn't you agree?
