Since entering service in February of 2022, the Amtrak ALC-42 long distance passenger diesel locomotives have seen use on five different Amtrak routes. The Coast Starlight, from Los Angeles, CA to Seattle, WA, was one of the more recent services to feature these new locomotives. In this portion of our look at the ALC-42 locomotives, built by Siemens Mobility, we take a look at a number of these units in Coast Starlight service in the state of Oregon. We'll travel all over the state from Klamath Falls to Portland to see the ALC-42 in some of the most spectacular scenery in the west.
