Adam Biggs's bass playing is nothing short of phenomenal - this song has so many great facets to it, with heavy grooving, fast runs, slapping, strummed chords, melodic playing,... Took me a long time and a lot of practice to (somewhat) get it down, but it was a rewarding experience for sure!
What you see is what you hear - single take, no dubs, no edits! Left all the slop in there to show what I can and can't play. I did several takes, this one is my favorite, but I didn't manage to get a truly flawless one.
The song is in drop F#, and I was not about to set my bass up for it, let alone strapping on a 170 string. So the bass is "only" in drop A with a 130 low string, the last 3 semitones being done by the Helix Native Capo at 100% mix.
Bass: 2020 Spector Euro 5LX black cherry
Bass recording: Scarlett solo - CLA compressor - Helix Native (SVT4 Pro model) - Ampeg 8x10IR - a bit more compressor & some subtle saturation
Rest of the mix: High passed the original audio & cut a bit around 2K; bus compression & tape glue, then into Ozone for mastering with the original track as reference
