In this week's Torah portion, Chukat, Moses goes to war against the Edomites and the Amorites and Israel wins with God's help. Much later, Jephthah, a judge, reminds the Ammonites of this episode, so they can avoid war. They can't and Israel wins again. But there is a tragic twist.
