With an intention to make concentrated efforts for the growth and development of the food processing sector, Dr Charan Das Mahant, Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Processing Industries, in an interview with Media India Group, talks about the initiatives taken by the ministry to encourage state governments to frame food processing policies aiming at creating rural infrastructure, raising the level of food processing, generating farm-level employment and creating an overall enabling environment, keeping in view the requirements of the states. In addition, with the coming up of FDI, the minister looks for more investment from European countries. However, the minister is attracting foreign investment in the sectors like milk, fruits and vegetables, meat, fisheries, to name a few. He also talked about his visit to SIAL in October 2012 and the agreement signed to foster closer cooperation between India and France in the area of agro-development and food processing.
