Reading for Vocabulary is a four-level reading series for young learners of English at ages 10 or above. The series aims to develop young learners’ vocabulary and overall language skills through exposure to a variety of topics. The series instructor Brian Stuart provides for learners a highly dynamic and entertaining lessons. So learners will be able to learn a large number of vocabulary with fun and ease.

💓Lesson 5 Never a Warm Day

Imagine a far away land with snow and ice all year long. In this remote place, every day is winter. You wake up each morning to the cold air and frost. Does this sound like the right place for you? If it does, then you should go to the Arctic. Maybe you’ve heard of the Arctic before.

Storybooks say this is where Santa Claus lives. But real people live there too. There are schools, churches, and hospitals just like in your town. Not everything is the same though. On some winter days, the sun doesn’t shine ! If it does, it shines for only a few hours and it’s not very bright. In the summer, it’s the opposite . The sky is bright almost all the time. At night it gets a little dark, but even then you can still see the sun. Could you fall asleep with the sun still shining? The people in the Arctic do every summer.

It may be hard to believe, but the Arctic is a popular place to visit. About a million tourists go there each year. Most of them don’t go because they like frigid weather. They go to see new and unusual things. Instead of cars, there are dogs pulling a sled with people.

You can also sleep in an igloo, go ice fishing, and maybe even see a polar bear. So, are you thinking about going? If you are then you should go soon. During 2004 to 2006, a part of the Arctic as big as France melted! The climate is changing and becoming warmer. Some scientists predict that by 2060 all the ice will be gone!
