Berkeley Women's Community Chorus (BWCC) under direction of Debra Golata performs "Sonatemi Un Balletto" by Gio. Giacomo Gastoldi (Caravaggio 1550 -- Mantua 1622).

"Play a Balletto for me, with my love I want to dance! I take great pleasure in the dance, I tell you truly. Come on, begin playing. Ready is my nymph and because of her wanting to dance with me and having favored me, my hand is still shaking."

A Balletto is a dancelike choral work similar to a madrigal (a secular Renaissance part song). This comes from a larger collection called Balletti for three voices published in 1594. Gastoldi was very popular (his 1591 volume of Balleti a Cinque Voci was reprinted ten times in Venice alone within his lifetime—a "best-seller”), and he strongly influenced both English and German composers.

The performance took place on Sunday, 2015 November 22 at Northbrae Community Church in Berkeley, CA.
