Ruslana Danilkina was only 18 years old when, as the Russian invasion erupted in February 2022, she volunteered to join the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Known on the battlefield as "Rusya," she worked as a communications operator, relaying crucial information on enemy movements and explosions to protect her country. Tirelessly, she served until February 10, 2023, when, during a mission, her vehicle was struck by a mortar.
Ruslana lost part of her leg in the attack, but thanks to swift first aid, she survived. Since then, she has undergone five surgeries, and although the journey has been grueling, she states, "It's painful, but life goes on." Her story has become a symbol of the fighting spirit that sustains Ukraine through adversity.
