Few days after launching a security collaboration with Australia, the US and UK are now facing growing international criticism.
The deal is seen as an effort to counter China and is expected to see the technology to build nuclear-powered submarines. But that move has angered France, which says it has been stabbed in the back.
China is accusing the three powers of having a "Cold War mentality".
The alliance, known as AUKUS, was announced by US President, Joe Biden, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, and his Australian counterpart, Scott Morrison earlier in the week.
AUKUS is being widely viewed as an effort to counter China's influence, in the contested South China Sea.
