We recorded this 4k ultra hd video during our trip to Benidorm, Spain on July 2022.
Benidorm is a vibrant coastal city located on the eastern coast of Spain, known for its stunning beaches and bustling tourism industry. It has a rich historical background, with evidence of human settlement dating back to ancient times. Its rise as a tourist hotspot began in 1925 with the expansion of the port and the establishment of the first hotels. However, it wasn't until the 1950s that Benidorm gained widespread recognition as a preferred summer destination, particularly for people from inland Spain, notably Madrid. Today, Benidorm is renowned for its flourishing hotel industry, stunning beaches, and striking skyline adorned with skyscrapers. It has the most high-rise buildings per capita in the world, after New York City and attracts a significant number of international tourists, matching its domestic visitors. As of the 2020 census, Benidorm boasts a permanent population of 70,450 inhabitants, ranking it as the fifth most populous town in the Alicante province. The two main beaches in Benidorm are Levante Beach (Playa de Levante) and Poniente Beach (Playa de Poniente) where we are now. The city enjoys a Mediterranean climate with mild winters and hot summers. It experiences over 3,000 hours of sunshine annually. Benidorm is often referred to as the "Manhattan of Spain" or the "Benidorm Special," given its bustling nightlife and entertainment options. The city has an impressive hotel infrastructure with over 500 hotels, offering a wide range of accommodations for tourists. Benidorm has a significant British expatriate community, and English is widely spoken throughout the city. Many British visitors and retirees have made Benidorm their second home. The city is home to several theme parks, including Terra Mítica (a Mediterranean-themed park), Aqualandia (a water park), and Mundomar (a marine animal park). It also hosts various cultural events and festivals throughout the year, including the International Song Festival, the Fancy Dress Party, and the Moors and Christians Parade. Benidorm has served as a backdrop for several movies and TV shows, including "The Inbetweeners Movie" and the TV series "Benidorm." The Poniente Beach stretches for some three kilometres, it is set against the backdrop of a long seafront promenade and offers a full range of services.
Our guided walking tour is about 3.72 miles (6 km) long, starts at Poniente Beach (Playa de Poniente) and covers most attractions and historic sites of Benidorm.
