Rainforests usually don't burn. As the name implies, they're simply too wet.
But the recent devastating bushfires in New South Wales and Queensland were so severe, they did encroach on areas that are usually never under threat.
Scientists have begun assessing the extent of the damage, and the long-term implications are a big worry for fire fighters.
