A LOS ANGELES JURY DELIVERED A PARTIAL VERDICT AGAINST TWO WOMEN CHARGED WITH OPERATING A MURDER FOR PROFIT SCHEME.
77-YEAR-OLD HELEN GOLAY WAS FOUND GUILTY ON TWO COUNTS OF MURDER AND CONSPIRACY. ALLEGED PARTNER OLGA RUTTERSCHMIDT WAS FOUND GUILTY ON ONE CONSPIRACY COUNT. THE TRIAL ISN'T OVER YET...BECAUSE JURORS ARE STILL DELIBERATING ON THREE COUNTS... ALL INVOLVING RUTTERSCHMIDT.
IT'S A STORY THAT THE LOCAL PRESS DUBBED THE CASE OF THE BLACK WIDOWS. PROSECUTORS SAYS GOLAY & RUTTERSCHMIDT RECRUITED THEIR VICTIMS FROM L-A'S HOMELESS POPULATION...FINDING TWO MEN IN SHELTERS AND OFFERING TO KEEP THEM IN HOLLYWOOD APARTMENTS. IN 1999 73-YEAR-OLD PAUL VADOS DIED IN A HIT & RUN ACCIDENT. IN 2005 50-YEAR-OLD KENNETH MC-DAVID DIED THE SAME WAY. PROSECUTORS SAY BOTH MEN HAD BEEN RUN OVER IN BACK ALLEYS IN L-A'S WEST SIDE AND SAY THE WOMEN HAD TAKEN OUT INSURANCE POLICIES ON THE MEN. THEN COLLECTED MILLIONS AFTER THEIR DEATHS.
