One of the building blocks we teach in our Level 1 "Intro to Adventure" class here at RawHyde is the skid turn. When you're riding in the backcountry or even on a dirt or gravel road, there may come a time when this technique can help you make a tighter radius turn. In this drill, students approach the turn at speed, lock up their rear brake and turn the handlebars to get the rear end of the bike to drift around. The rider then releases the brake and throttles out of the turn. Students are reminded to always turn their head to look where they want the bike to go!
