Royal Mail raising price of a first-class stamp to 85p (second class will be 66p). Cost will have more than doubled since 2010 after increase on the 1st January 2021 (CE).
1840 (CE) the Penny Black stamp would have cost you 1 old penny.
1970/71 (CE) 130 years later even with decimalisation a first class stamp was around 3 new pennies (2nd 2.5p (half pennies were phased out in 1984)).
Then in just 30 years around 2000 (CE) - 1st class = 27p & 2nd class = 19p (the internet only took off en masse from 1998-2000+ (CE)).
Add just 20 more years and come January 1st 2021 (CE) a UK 1st class stamp = 85p & 2nd class stamp = 66p.
Is it worth it? Sign of the times? Or just another' rip-off Britain' item - yet again?
