Lecture 1.
“Urban Forestry as Ordinary Part of Forest Management: A case study from the city forest of
Luebeck/Germany”

Forest management shall according to the UN-Conventions of Rio 1992 fulfill worldwide the conditions
of "Sustainable Development". This means to satisfy always at least three aspects of management, which
are ecological, social and economic needs. The speaker will demonstrate how these aspects translate into
practice on the example of the City Forest of Luebeck/Germany, which since 1994 practices such an urban
forestry on 5.000 ha of its forest.

“Urban Forests as a Challenge for Modern Forest Management: A case study from the city forest of
Celje/Slovenia«
Speaker: Robert Hostnik, Forester, Master of Natural Heritage Conservation, Specialist in Urban Forestry
and Ecosystem Services Assessment, Slovenia.
The talk covers development of the policy, perception and management of the urban forests in Slovenia –
a country with as high share of forests as 58%, with the urban forests being most visited forests and with
the most emphasized social functions.
