BR 'Black Five' Steam locomotive 44806 powers up the gradient between Levisham and Goathland on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, providing a nice sound track as she goes with a heavy load of seven full carriages behind her. The train ran from Pickering through to Whitby on the mainline. After numerous visits to the line this year, it was good to finally get some nice weather on the railway!
The footage shows the climb from Levisham station to Goathland over Goathland Summit, running fast non-stop through Newton Dale Halt, passing through the scenic North Yorkshire Moors National Park area, where Summer is in full flow in the beautiful, vibrant landscape.
The LMS Black 5 was designed by William Stannier and is seen here in BR Black livery. These locomotives were mixed traffic locomotives and were found working everything from heavy freight services to express passenger services too. A significant number of Black 5 locomotives are preserved and they common both on the mainline and heritage railways.
