Sri Lanka's President Anura Kumara Dissanayake Visits India in His First Foreign Trip
Sri Lanka's President Anura Kumara Dissanayake (AKD) began his three-day India visit starting December 15, 2024. The newly elected Sri Lankan president chose India over China as the country for his first foreign visit. Shortly after landing in New Delhi, Connectivity and investments in debt-ridden Sri Lanka remain top on President Dissanayake's agenda during his ongoing India visit. The Marxist leader also aims to iron out fishing disputes with India. The South Asian island nation is central to New Delhi's "Neighbourhood First" foreign policy plank that prioritises cooperation with the countries in India's immediate neighbourhood.
