Bakso is a classic Indonesian dish that will warm your heart and satisfy your taste buds. Get ready for a delicious bowl of homemade Bakso, beloved by the Indonesian people and Former President Barack Obama.
Ingredients:
Broth
2 liters water
1 lb Beef bones
Green onions white part (edge part)
Ginger (optional)
White / black pepper
Garlic Salt
Pho Seasoning
Bakso/Meatballs
1 lb leaned beef
½ lb chicken breast
¼ cup tapioca flour
1 tablespoon of fried shallot
1 tablespoon of fried garlic
1 teaspoon garlic salt
1/2 teaspoon white/black pepper
1 egg white
Ice cubes (for the meatball mixture)
Noodles of your choice (I use Bihun / Rice noodles)
Chopped spring onions (for garnish)
Fried onions (for garnish)
Sambal or chili sauce (optional)
Sweet soy sauce (kecap manis)
Step 1: Cook the broth
Boil all the broth ingredients together for 1 hour.
Season with garlic salt, pho seasoning, and black pepper to taste
Step 2: Make the meatballs mixture
- Grind the beef, chicken, fried shallots, and fried garlic
- Mix all the ingredients thoroughly until well combined.
- Add a handful of ice cubes to the mixture to keep it chilled. This will help in achieving a bouncy and tender texture for the meatballs.
- Gradually add tapioca flour to the mixture, mixing well after each addition. Continue adding until the mixture becomes firm but still pliable.
Step 3: Shape the meatballs mixture
Shape the meatball mixture into small, bite-sized balls using your hands. Wetting your hands with water will prevent the mixture from sticking.
Step 4: Bring the meatballs to a boil.
Tips, wait until they are floating to the surface. That's when we know the meatballs are fully cooked.
Step 5: Serving the Bakso Bowl
Cook your choice of noodles according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
In a serving bowl, add a portion of cooked noodles.
Ladle the hot beef broth with the meatballs over the noodles.
Garnish with chopped spring onions and fried onions.
Step 6: Enjoying the Bakso Soup
Mix the noodles, meatballs, and broth together in your bowl.
Take a spoonful of the Bakso soup and savor the rich flavors of the broth, the tender meatballs, and the satisfying chewiness of the noodles.
If you like some heat, feel free to add sambal or chili sauce according to your preference.
You can also add sweet soy sauce (kecap manis) to balance the flavor with a hit of sweetness.
Enjoy the recipe!
