In this video, I am continuing the series of overhauling the ignition system on my XJ40. I am now replacing two further, essential components in the ignition system, the Ignition Amplifier (sometimes referred to as the Ignitor) and the Coil.
GM Ignitor PN - 669 7B25
Replacement of both items is not too difficult. The coil sits over the Amplifier. You need to remove the coil. Remove the king lead and remove the two low tension connectors. You can then remove both bolts holding the coil in. The coil can then be removed. Access to the amplifier should now be available. The amp has a small earth cable attached, be careful not to snap this. The amplifier is attached to a metal panel (looks like it's aluminium), which serves as a heatsink.
Replacement is fairly quick, there is a ballast which attaches to the coil, don't forget to attach that!. More in Part 2.
