The damaged destroyer is heading to Yokosuna Naval Base near Tokyo, home of the U.S. 7th fleet.
The USS McCain was damaged in a collision on August 21. Navy officials concluded that the damages sustained to the ship can be repaired in Japan, and sailors assigned to the ship and their families can stay nearby.
