(17 Sep 2014) A group of pro-Tibetan activists gathered outside the Chinese embassy in New Delhi on Wednesday, protesting the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping, on Wednesday.
The group, less than ten in number, shouted slogans like "Free Tibet" and "Xi Jinping, end the occupation" before being removed forcibly by police.
Xi was scheduled to arrive from Sri Lanka where, earlier on Wednesday he was inaugurating a 1.4 (b) billion US dollar port city being built on an artificial island near the country's capital.
In India, Xi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi were expected to discuss trade, infrastructure and territorial disputes.
The protesters outside the Chinese embassy were members of the Tibetan Youth Congress, an organisation that works for the Freedom of Tibet.
They had planned to hold a march to a protest venue in the centre of the city, but many of them were locked down in the Tibetan settlements and were not allowed to carry out the protest rally, which they do every time a Chinese leader visits the country.
Within Tibet, since 2009, more than 100 Tibetans have self-immolated in protest at the heavy-handed rule of China.
China claims Tibet has been part of its territory for centuries.
Tibetans say the Himalayan region was virtually independent until China occupied it in 1950.
