Competence development in ERCP: the learning curve of novice Trainees

At present most authorities evaluate competence in endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) on the basis of threshold numbers of procedures performed; such assessment has inherent limitations. Dutch researchers evaluated a novel approach, using continuous self-assessment expressed on a learning curve, that more accurately reflected the progressive acquisition of competence.
