Exploring soil with Students of Khoj School for Communities Education
Founder of Khoj Society for Peoples Education Nasira Habib uses an innovative method of teaching and learning in Khoj School of Community’s Education. She Explored Soil with students in order to teach them natural phenomenons through experimentation and observation.
Following activities were performed in this training workshop:
Detailed discussion on what is soil?
Understanding the importance of soil and realizing that healthy plants give healthy food.
Students mimicked the natural process of soil formation and checked out their handiwork.
After the soil is ready they planted the seedlings.
Students studied the components of soil through observation and research.
We carried out an experiment about making soil from scratch, once the soil was ready we planted a small flowering plant. This plant took rook and started growing and flowering.
Some of the buds can be seen in the video while the others dried and fell off. We were all thrilled with our experiment.
At Khoj Society for People’s education we believe that education must be relevant, holistic and integrative, and provoke analysis and imagination. It must break the curricular barrier, which drives knowledge into mutually exclusive subjects and grades.
Nasira Habib is the author of this innovative approach and methodology.
