VOICED BY RICHARD VAUGHAN

On the eve of Sunday's Yugoslav elections in Kosovo, KFor has stepped up patrols in the province.
The NATO-led peacekeeping force is anxious to prevent violence, but does not wish to be seen as lending credibility to the polls.
In the meantime, the Serb leader in Mitrovica has announced he will support Opposition Leader Vojislav Kostunica.
VOICE-OVER:
KFor troops patrol the streets of Mitrovica in greater numbers... security has been boosted on the eve of the federal elections.
In the villages too, commandos patrol...
Devet Jugovic, north of Pristina, is a potential flash point...
Hundreds of Serbs and Albanians live opposite each other on the main road.
But the peacekeeping force faces a dilemma.. it's to prevent violence at the polls.. without appearing to support the election.
This school is one of the main polling stations...but it won't have KFor protection..
Troops are banned from guarding stations and ballot boxes and from escorting Serbs to the vote..
The Opposition campaign has attracted a new supporter.. the local Serb leader says Vojislav Kostunica has his vote..
SOUNDBITE; (English)
"I think a very serious number will vote for Kostunica and the democratic opposition of Serbia. Kostunica is a very clever man, a man of principle."
SUPER CAPTION: Oliver Ivanovic, local Serb leader
Monitors from the Democratic Opposition of Serbia will observe every polling booth in the province.
The OSCE and UN too are recruiting volunteers to act as witnesses.
In the meantime.. many in the province wait... but they fear that no matter the result of the elections... little will change..
