Israel announced it had killed Ibrahim Aqil, commander of Hezbollah’s elite Radwan unit, in a targeted strike in Beirut that left 12 dead and dozens wounded. Aqil, wanted by the US for his role in the 1983 bombing of its embassy in Beirut, was the second senior Hezbollah commander killed since the Gaza conflict began. The strike caused significant destruction in a Hezbollah stronghold in southern Beirut. It followed a series of explosions targeting Hezbollah communication devices, which the group attributed to Israel. Hezbollah retaliated by firing rockets at Israeli military bases, vowing retribution for the attacks.
