Leopold Stokowski conducted the US Premiere of Vaughan Williams's 9th Symphony in New York on 25 September 1958. The New York Times critic Harold C. Schoenberg wrote: "The Vaughan Williams Ninth is a masterpiece, packed with strong, personal melody ... Mr. Stokowski led 'his Orchestra' with his usual authority and music-making of love and dedication." This work, plus three items by American composers from that same concert, have been issued by Cala Records (CACD0539) from whom it is available as a CD or a download. All Vaughan Williams enthusiasts should have this in their collection!
