Canon lenses have different signposts and their functions
USM (Ultrasonic Motor)
Ultrasonic Motor (USM) is a type of Auto Focusing Motor located in the Canon lens. Due to Ultrasonic Motor, autofocus is perfect, silent and fast in these lenses. The cost of the USM lens is low, which is why the battery life of the camera is more available. Note that all the tanks are supplied from the camera as much as they need to operate the lens. These lenses support FULL TIME MANUAL (FT-M), that means you can focus your manual lens by turning the lens barrels on the AF Focus option. Note that, we know, manual focus can not always be on the AF option MF switch AF. There are two types of USM, Ring-Type USM and Micro-motor USM. Micro-motor USM is used to reduce the cost of lenses. From the price it is understood, Micro-motor USM's performance is slightly lower than the Ring Type USM. Typically, Large Aperture & Super Telephoto lenses use Ring Type USM. On the other hand USM facility uses Micro-motor USM to reduce costs. The launch of the ultrasonic motor (USM) lens has started since 1987.
Some old USM lenses have a gold ring and the "Ultrasonic" is written with the gold color in the lens barrel. On the other hand, the USMs with L-Lens have a red ring instead of the Gold Ring and "Ultrasonic" is written with Red Color.
STM (Stepping Motor)
Stepping Motor (STM) is a type of Auto Focusing Motor located in the Canon lens. Canon announced the first stepping motor (STM) in 2012. Appearance of this lens for Smooth & Quiet Auto Focus in the video (Remember, in this case your video also has the video autofocus feature). That is, for the Auto Focus Supported Body in Video (eg Canon 650D, 700D etc.) STM lenses are very important. There are two types of STM- like USM. Gear-Type STM and Lead-Screw Type STM STM is written in front of every STM lens. For example, Canon Lens EF 40mm 1: 2.8 STM. Gear-Type STM has been used in this lens due to which the lens is very light and small. On the other hand, the EF-S 18-135mm f / 3.5-5.6 IS STM lenses have been used in Lead-Screw Type STM due to which auto focusing in this lens is more perfect. That means better than Lead-Screw Type STM from Gear-Type STM.
One thing to say is, the autofocusing motor in the can of the lens is not in the body. On the other hand, in the case of Nikon, some bodies have autofocusing motors and some do not have any body. For Nikon's body that does not have autofocusing motorcycle, buy lenses with autofocusing motor (if you want autofocusing feature)
DO (Diffractive Optics)
Canon used Diffractive Optics (DO) in some of its lenses for high performance, despite its performance high, much smaller than the Traditional Lens. These are very expensive lenses. One of these lenses is EF 70-300 mm f / 4.5-5.6 DO IS USM, which is 28 percent smaller than the traditional EF 70-300mm f / 4-5.6 IS USM lens.
EF Lens Mount
EF means Electro-Focus The journey started in 1987. For Canon EOS Family, this is a standard lens mount. This means that these lenses can be used on all cameras of EOS Family. Auto Focus is operated with electric motors inside this lens. Note that the canons have focal motors in the lens, not in the body. The way to know this lens is to have a raised round red mark on the lens.
EF-S Lens Mount
S of EF-S comes from "Small Image Circle". On the other hand, the EF-S lens came from the EF lens, which started in 2003 and it's only made for APS-C Sensor (Cropped Sensor) Camera. One important thing is that EF lenses support EF (Full Frame Camera) and EF-S Body, but the EF-S lens is only for EF-S Body. The lens size is the square white mark on the lens. There are white colored marks
EF-M EF-M Lens Mount
EF-M's M comes from "Mirror-less" The appearance of this lens at the end of 2012. This lens is only made for Mirror-less Interchangeable-Lens Camera. EF and EF-S lenses can be used in EF-M Body through Mount Adapter. There are only four EF-M lenses available in the market so far. All of them have Stepping Motor (STM).
Canon L Lens (Luxury)
There is a red ring in the islens and every lens has the letter L. L means luxury. Their prices are much higher. These lenses have Wide Maximum Aperture. This is also one of the main reasons for the price rise. These are high quality USM with which the focus is very fast and perfect.
Canon IS (Image Stabilizer)
This is normal if the camera will be shake at the Low Light Environment with Slow Shutter Speed to take pictures without Tripod. On the other hand, if the focal length of the lens is higher or if your lens is a telephoto lens, then your image may be blurred due to a small camera shake. But in these cases, if you have Image Stabilizer in your lens then your picture
