This symbolism in the painting marks the journey of the “Waagyl” a spirit serpent who travelled from water-hole to water-hole. The Waagyl travels underground and lifts his head at each water-hole to see the direction of his travel. If the Waagyl altered his direction the water-ways would change. The painting shows the different direction the Waagyl has taken to create these water-ways.
