According to a few, Ferrari made the questionable call to keep Leclerc out during the late safety car period which dropped him to 4th after the race resumed and everyone behind him had fresh softs

Did Ferrari Make A Mistake In Silverstone With Leclerc?
After the race, Leclerc had this to say to F1’s official media team and Sky Sports
“I didn’t finish where I wanted to, so it was a frustrating race for me”
“From my side, I felt like I lost a bit too much time in the first stint, and especially in the first part of the second stint”
“But this is only my view and it might change once I see the full picture”
Team principal Mattia Binotto was seen speaking to him after the race and a few suggested that he was asking Leclerc not to criticize the team
Leclerc revealed what they spoke about
“He wanted to cheer me up”
Binotto revealed his side of the story to Motorsport
“I told him simply to stay calm, because the way he drove was fantastic”
He then explained their decision not to pit both cars
“There was not a sufficient gap to stop both of them, because the second would have lost time at the pit stop and would have fallen back on-track”
Generally, in such situations, the race leader gets the preference but it was Sainz who was bought in from 2nd place
Binotto elaborated why
“Why then by deciding to stop only one, why we decided to stop Carlos? Because Charles got the track position. He was leading, so he would have remained the leader of the race”
“His tyres were fresher compared to the ones of Carlos”
Binotto signed off by responding to whether not pitting Leclerc was a mistake
“[Ferrari’s decisions were] the right and proper ones at each single time. I think with the hindsight, it’s always easy to say we could have done differently”
“We had once again a safety car at the wrong moment where we were comfortably leading the race at that point”

For Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, “seventh place is a good result considering the damage [he] had on the car”
“With Checo on the podium, we’ve scored some good points for the Team”
“I of course had hoped for more but was just unlucky”
Teammate Sergio Perez, meanwhile, “enjoyed the racing today a lot, we were fighting hard and fair and it felt like my karting days”
“Everyone was pushing really hard and going wheel to wheel, my heartrate was pretty high on those last laps”
“It was a race where it was important not to give up”
Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton feels that they’ve “got some improvements to make but this is a huge bonus to be on the podium”
“I’m glad everyone was safe from that big crash at the beginning of the day”
