In the final list of candidates for Delhi Assembly elections, BJP has fielded Sunil Yadav against CM Arvind Kejriwal from the New Delhi constituency. Yadav is the President of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha's Delhi unit. BJP has also named Tajinder Pal Bagga, who will contest from the Hari Nagar constituency. The voting will be held on February 8.

JP Nadda was on Monday appointed as BJP National President. Nadda, who replaces Amit Shah, was appointed as the Working President of the BJP in June 2019. Last year, Amit Shah had written to PM Narendra Modi requesting that the role be given to someone else as he had responsibilities of being the Home Minister to fulfil.

An edited video of the film 'Tanhaji' was criticised online after it showed PM Narendra Modi as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Home Minister Amit Shah as Tanhaji Malusare. The now-deleted video was posted by a Twitter handle in reference to Delhi elections. Criticising the video, Shiv Sena's Sanjay Raut said, "Shivaji Maharaj is our idol...we'll not tolerate his insult."

At least 17 MLAs of the opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) were suspended from the Andhra Pradesh Assembly on Monday for disrupting CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's address on a Bill that proposes the creation of three capitals in the state- Visakhapatnam, Kurnool and Amaravati. "The government is arresting everyone. It's bad for democracy," said former CM N Chandrababu Naidu.

After the IMF lowered India's 2019-20 growth forecast to 4.8%, Congress leader P Chidambaram said, "We must prepare ourselves for an attack by government ministers on the IMF and (IMF Chief Economist) Dr Gita Gopinath." "Gita Gopinath was one of the first to denounce demonetisation," he tweeted. Gopinath said the slowdown in India will have an effect on global growth.
