The ME2300 serves as a ready-to-teach package in the areas of digital signal processing (DSP) design, simulation, and hardware implementation using an FPGA platform. This is a lecturer resource consisting of teaching slides, training kits, lab sheets, and problem-based assignments.
Objective
i) To implement real-time digital signal processing using the Altera® DE2 board.
Introduction
In this lab, the audio codec on the DE2 board will be used to perform simple real-time DSP operations. The step-by-step design flow of a typical DSP implementation will be discussed.
The first experiment is to create an audio loopback application. The audio loopback application will pass digital samples from the ADC directly to the DAC without any processing. This module can then be used as a standard template for other projects.
The second experiment is to investigate the quantization effect of digital samples.
Once you have completed this lab, you should be able to:
1. create the basic framework for real-time digital signal processing using Simulink, Altera DSP Builder, Quartus II, and DE2 board; and
2. understand the effect of quantization.
