The old Pipe & Brickworks.
Three down-draught pipe kilns and their two chimney stacks, believed to date from the late 1940s, are currently still standing on the site of the former Pipe and Brick Works. The kilns have English bond brick walls and header bond brick domes without mortar, the drum walls and their necks being held together by steel bands. They are Grade II listed but, as this example shows, listing alone won't prevent the structures from eventually falling down and their condition already is very bad mainly due to damage caused by rain water and encroaching vegetation. Sadly, attempts to preserve the site in preparation as a museum of brick making would seem to have been abandoned.
