Join us as we visit Vevey Switzerland - a charming city on the banks of Lake Geneva surrounded by an impressive Alpine panorama.
Known as the “Pearls of the Swiss Riviera,” Vevey offers magnificent views from the lake and the lake shores. Vevey is also very famous for its excellent wine. Held only 5 times each century, Vevey hosts one of the world’s largest and rarest wine festivals called La Fête des Vignerons which received UNESCO intangible cultural heritage status in 2016. During the summer of 2019 we had the amazing opportunity to attend this event and shared a video of our experience here on our channel!
Vevey has 14 Swiss heritage sites of national significance including 4 museums, 3 churches, and 7 historical buildings. The museums are Alimentarium, the Museum de la Confrérie des Vignerons, the Museum Jenisch, and the Museum suisse de l’appareil photographique. The three churches are the Roman Catholic Church of Notre-Dame, the Orthodox Church of the Great Martyr Barbara, and the Swiss Reformed Church of Saint-Martin. Vevey also houses the world headquarters of the international food and beverage company Nestlé.
One of the most famous attractions in Vevey is Chaplin’s World - the only museum dedicated to Charlie Chaplin - the revered comic actor and film-maker. There is also a bronze statue of Chaplin on the lakeshore near a huge silver fork sculpture rising out of the lake in front of the Alimentarium
Vevey is special. It is a little different than other Swiss towns - in a good way. While it offers all the modern amenities for a luxurious vacation - boutique hotels, spas, shopping zone and restaurants, Vevey will always be in our heart for the extraordinary natural views.
