Ever wondered how to crack open an oyster to enjoy at home? Our Burlington Wine Bar manager, Emmi is an oyster shucking pro and here she shows you how to open a beautiful oyster with ease. We recommend serving with a a squeeze of lemon and some fresh horseradish.
Tools:
Kitchen towel
Oyster knife
Place the oyster in the fold of your towel. This will act as a barrier to protect your hand from the knife.
Insert your knife into the hinge of the oyster at a 45 degree angle and wiggle until you feel it release.
Run your knife through the oyster, keeping the blade flush with the top of the shell to ensure a clean shuck. You are severing the adductor muscle from the shell. This muscle is connected to both sides of the shell. Be sure to separate for easy consumption. Enjoy!
