I had two free firewood stops today. The first one was a pretty good size oak, 2 ft in diameter. I got a little bit of free wood, so it was a success. The guy I met there was cool, and I loved his comment, "This is fun, huh?" I couldn't agree more. That's why I do this! It's so much fun. I mostly used my Husqvarna 550xp mark 2, which I am still breaking in. It performed great.
BUT I was really excited when I heard back from another guy who is working to cut down a GIANT oak in an old residential neighborhood. I knew I could score a ton of free firewood at that stop.
So, I dropped off the family and picked up my ported Husky 372xpw to help tackle the huge rounds. When I got to the house, I found that the tree service had not finished cutting down the huge oak yet, but they already had all of the branches on the ground. Guys, the BRANCHES were more than two feet in diameter. The BRANCHES! This thing was huge. I can't believe how big this oak was in this old, residential neighborhood. It must have been a couple of hundred years old. I couldn't get an exact measurement on the stump, since they had not cut it all the way down yet, but my best measurement is more than 5 1/2 ft in diameter!
Naturally, I was thrilled to bring out my ported 372 and set in bucking up those giant rounds.
