If you’re already receiving disability benefits, then the biggest factor is usually whether you’re receiving it through disability insurance or through SSI.

If you’re receiving benefits through SSI, then there’s a good chance that those benefits could be impacted unless special actions are taken. If you’re receiving your benefits through disability insurance, then those benefits generally aren’t impacted, but there are some exceptions to that.

Given these concerns, any disability benefits you are receiving should be discussed with your attorney prior to settlement.
