Interior of a Meter Gauge Second AC Coach of 15696 Agartala-Lumding Express.
Since the Meter gauge (3'3") is not as wide as a Broad gauge (5'6"), there are no side lower/upper berths in Second AC coach. There are only 7 cabins, each cabin consisting of 4 berths (2 lower and 2 upper).
The total capacity of this coach is 27 seats. The last cabin (H) has only 3 berths since the AC equipment eats up the space of one upper berth.
The interior gives a feel of a broad gauge First AC coach.
This coach WGACCW NR 4009 was manufactured by the (ICF) Integral Coach Factory, Perambur in August 1989 and was allocated to Northern Railways. Later transferred to Northeast Frontier Railways.
The 15696 Agartala-Lumding Express was the only express train connecting Lumding and Agartala. It used to run daily and depart Agartala at 16:15 hours and arrive Lumding the next day morning at 11:15 hours. Covering a distance of 406 Kilometres with an average speed of 21 Kmph.
Agartala-Lumding section is now converted to broad gauge and this train hasn't been started yet in the broad gauge avatar.
