The Morbi bridge accident, one of the worst tragedies in the country in the recent past, killed over 135 people and injured many. Some of the old cables that held the Morbi brdge in place were not changed during the recent renovation work that took place in March.It is being reported that many people who fell into the water, hit the rocky bottom of the shallow ends after falling into the river. The depth of the river beneath the century-old cable bridge is just 10 feet. The force with which people hit the river's rocky bottom is believed to have resulted in their death. Gujarat forensics laboratory believes that the narrow Morbi bridge collapsed due to huge rush of people and have cited overcrowding as the reason behind Morbi bridge collapse.
