July 6, 2023 - Boston City Council President Ed Flynn was interviewed on El Mundo Boston’s morning show “La Hora del Café” the morning after Flynn posted a critical open letter calling out City Councilors Kendra Lara and Ricardo Arroyo for their recent behavior and actions which have been the center of public controversy and front page headlines in Boston.
Lara is facing several charges after a Friday crash in which a gray 2019 Honda Civic crashed through a metal fence over bushes and slammed into the left side of a Jamaica Plain home.
Lara was driving with a revoked license and the vehicle she was driving was unregistered, uninsured and had an expired inspection sticker. Police reports estimate she was driving at speeds as high as 53 mph on a 25 mph street, during a heavy traffic hour for both pedestrians and vehicles around 4:30pm on June 30th. Lara hasn't had a valid license since it was revoked 10 years ago.
Her seven year old son suffered a deep laceration in the crash and because police said her son was not riding in a booster seat, in violation of the law, the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families was contacted about the incident.
Last month, Councilor Arroyo agreed to pay a $3,000 fine after he admitted violating the conflict-of-interest law, according to the State Ethics Commission.
Arroyo was also previously caught up in a political scandal surrounding the resignation of U.S. Attorney Rachael Rollins. In that case, an investigator found that Rollins tried to improperly help Arroyo in his run for Suffolk County District Attorney.
