The Mayan Theater is part of what makes Denver's South Broadway business district so unique. Many people enjoying the the shops in the Baker Neighborhood today take the Mayan's status as a historic landmark for granted. But in the mid 1980's there was a very real threat that the Mayan would be demolished. At one point, the demolition scaffolding had already gone up and only a last minute appeal by conservationists saved it from destruction.
