Polylactic acid (PLA) is a new kind of biodegradable and renewable material, which is made from starch from renewable plant resources such as corn and cassava. Starch is saccharified to glucose, then fermented to high-purity lactic acid by glucose and certain strains, and then synthesized by chemical synthesis of a certain molecular weight of polylactic acid.
