This lift is situated in a commercial building in Solothurn. It was installed upon construction of the building and has not been touched since. There are multiple similar Emch lifts here but the one directly to the right of this one has been replaced by Schindler in 2002.
Since there are more floors above, this lift is bottom driven. A very interesting detail of the Emch relay logic is the rotating floor selector, which can be well seen in action in the video. Similar to the Schindler floor selector, this one has inner and outer rings with switches on them. One of the outer rings is for stopping on upwards travel, the other one for downwards. the small switches on the inside are for getting position and decide, whether the lift has to go up or down in order to get to the desired floor.
Another interesting observation is that the door locking magnet releases as soon as the motor switches from full speed to levelling speed. Therefore these lifts always unlock doors very early.
