Columnist Bernard Salt says there has been a “surge” in logistics during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The industry has added "35,000 net extra store persons" over the past 18 months.
He said there has also been a surge in “knowledge workers,” those with a university degree such as solicitors and accountants.
“There is still a demand for the trades, but they didn’t make the top echelon if you like, the top echelon in terms of sheer volumes, sheer numbers of FedEx jobs, jobs like care and logistics, and technology,” Mr Salt told Sky News host Chris Smith.
Mr Salt suggested the best thing parents could do for their children is to ensure they “come out of their teenage years some sort of technical qualification.”
