The Mathematical Thinkers Like Me (MLM) project is funded by the EF+Math initiative. This video is part of MLM's Executive Functions in Practice (EFP) videos, and illustrates the way in which working memory is developed and motivated in the context of online collaborative problem solving. Working memory is presented here in terms of holding in mind and making use of prior knowledge and practices in current problem solving, all supported by or prompted by the collaboration with others around rich, group-worthy tasks.
This video is produced by the Educational Psychology Lab at Swarthmore College led by K. Ann Renninger, working with 6th grade students from the Stephen Decatur school in Brooklyn taught by Jeannette Franklin. Also collaborating on this video was the MathematicalThinking group at 21PSTEM, led by Steve Weimar.
